History of Metal Finishing Technologies, LLC
1947 to 1980
Our legacy of quality metal finishing began 75-years ago in 1947, when Stanley Grabowski, a lifetime resident of CT born in Plainville, and a World War II veteran, founded Stanley Plating in a small shop in Bristol, Connecticut. In 1980 the company was renamed Metal Finishing Technologies (MFT) and introduced its metal finishing services to the market. In the mid 90’s MFT launched its Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) division, obtained its FAA Part 145 Repair Station license, and began supporting both commercial and military aircraft engine hardware refurbishment.
2011 to 2018
In 2011 our current CEO, a life-long aerospace and manufacturing leader, and entrepreneur purchased Metal Finishing Technologies. In 2014 MFT obtained its initial AS9100 certification and secured long-term commitments for aerospace repair work from major OEMs like Pratt & Whitney. Over the years MFT continued to invest heavily in the MRO business, commercial plating, and environmental compliance excellence, earning the Connecticut Green Bank Pacesetter Award in 2017. The following year MFT obtained full ISO: 9001 2015 & AS9100D certifications. As MFT continued to grow and expand its customer base, in 2018 our business was divided into three segments, including FAA/MRO, commercial plating, and specialty tooling.
2019 to 2020
In 2019 MFT added zinc-nickel plating in support of General Motors, as well as nickel flash for aerospace, and obtained Nadcap certification for passivation and sulfamate nickel processes. In 2020 MFT announced its partnership with the Battle Investment Group to accelerate business growth, drive technological innovation, and fund expansion into Smart Manufacturing.
Present Day Metal Finishing Technologies
Today Metal Finishing Technologies continues to invest and expand its workforce, leadership team, and capabilities and is poised to address growing demands across a variety of markets from aerospace & defense to automotive, electrical, medical, industrial, and marine. To complement our existing cleaning, stripping, blasting, coating removal, and plating MRO lines, and our commercial electroless nickel, passivation, electroplating, and superfinishing capabilities, MFT is in the process of adding industry-critical Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) such as Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection (FPI) and Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) and is also investing in state-of-the-art digital imaging technology.
